Bocatura Cabins are ideal for the naturalist, birder, fisherman who would like affordable, quality and clean accommodations. The Bocatura Bank is four acres with tall canopy trees, ... morefruit trees and a variety of landscaped shrubs. The property has 925 feet of river frontage. There is a 90' dock running parallel with the river. The dock is great for fishing and easy access for our kayaks. The river edges are a combination of mangroves, palm trees, and grassy edges. The river is a main outlet for the Cockscomb Basin and shares much of the same wild life. There is a lighted 500' walkway that connects the cabins.
“South Hopkins” (request our map) is home of three of the best ocean front restaurants in Belize. “South Hopkins is 2 miles from Bocatura. Or go into the village and eat at one of the local restaurants and enjoy a local cultural “Garifuna” dish.
Fred, our recent 78 year old guest bicycled to South Hopikins in 20 minutes, and to the village in 30 minutes. His favorite stop was the Oasis Cafe for high speed internet access and a smoothie.
Bocatura Bank is tucked in off the Sittee River road- see VRBO map- it is south of the Village about 3 miles, and 2 miles from “South Hopkins” with Belizean Dream, Hamanasi, and Jaguar Reef Resorts. The area is surrounded by jungle growth, plains grasses, and cane grasses. Bocatura Bank property is a well maintained 4 acres of trimmed lawn area. It is a paradise for birders.

Cabin 2 is a 2 bedroom (1 queen, 2 twins) one sofa bed in great room ; Cabin 2 can sleep 5. It has a fully equipped full size kitchen and bath with a hot water shower. Cabin 3 queen and sofa bed can sleep 1 with 2 full bathrooms, cabin 4 queen bed sleeps 2. all cabins have full kicrhes.

Bioluminescent River
Head out on the 5-minute boat ride to Anderson Lagoon on the Sittee River. The night sky is UNBELIEVABLE. Thick with stars all the way down to the tree line. Using high powered flashlights ... moreto spot the eyeshine of crocodiles, kinkajou, coatimundi, raccoons, birds, resting iguanas, and much more!
Go through the tiny cut to the lagoon and you are surrounded by the giant mangroves and then shoot out into the lagoon which boasts bioluminescent plankton that lights up with any disturbance in the water.
It’s pitch black, the guide’s flashlight beam cutting across the lagoon is the only light and then he turns it off, the boat picks up speed and the wake glows to blue light. As the boat picks up more speed, the tiny algae, which settle in the lagoon during the dry season, get agitated and glow. It’s absolutely unbelievable.
Our guide will stop the boat and you just stare into the water. Schools of fish or any marine life swimming through the lagoon create a phosphorescent trail which can look like a glowing cloud in the water. Hundreds of jellyfish pulsating in the water. They feed on the algae – it’s all along their edges and inside them.
Just moving your hand around in the water is miraculous. You leave aqua blue glowing blue bubbles.
A swim in these waters is almost irresistible so we recommend you wear your swimwear and bring along a towel.
